HalloWEDNESDAY Post! - Mummy Dearest

WOO! Tropical Cyclone (hurricane) Nilam decided to let up a bit here in Chennai, and my power is back on. I posted earlier on Twitter that there might not be a HalloWEDNESDAY post because of that...but there is! I have power! :D (Unfortunately, this also means that I have no excuse to eat all the ice cream in the freezer now. :D)

Halloween has ALWAYS been one of my favorite holidays, I remember my mom always made our costumes, and after I got to certain age, I started making my own. One year I transformed a box that my (disassembled) desk came packaged in into a stick of Juicy Fruit costume. I got lots of candy (and dimes) that year. I tend to go all out with my costumes, and have won a fair amount of the contests I've entered- one time I even won a trip for two to fabulous Las Vegas!! (before I lived there, of course :D)

Today is the last design in the 2011 HalloWEDNESDAY series, and I wanted it to be a fun but fast one, since today actually IS Halloween! I used masking tape and a cosmetic sponge to get this effect, I originally tried it with a tea-stained teabag, but I couldn't get the effect I was looking for. I saw the masking tape in my Helmer drawer and figured, "Why not?" and it worked! :D

What do you think... was this a good way to 'wrap up' the 2012 HalloWEDNESDAY series? Tell me in the comments below! :D

Mummy Dearest - FULL HAND

Mummy Dearest - fingers

Mummy Dearest - Close Up

Mummy Dearest - Thumb

I used:

Masking Tape
Cosmetic Sponge
Barielle Aura Angora
Barielle Coco Bar

Moonicure Monday - Something to 'Phone Home' About?

Moonicure Monday is late. I'm sorry. My sister is here in India visiting, and though it was painted, I am just now getting to post it! Lucky for her, She decides to come to India when Tropical Cyclone (what we call a Hurricane in the US) Nilam decides to show up! Lots of crazy wind right now and trees down all over. Anyway, this 'episode' of Moonicure Monday is another Halloween-themed one–and one from our pop-culture past, at that! I sure hope you recognize that lovable extra-terrestrial creature best known as ET flying across my half-moon on the bike with Elliot! OK, now I just need some Reese's Pieces!

I also got the chance to use one of the new American Apparel Glow in the Dark polishes I ordered, and I love them! (I got all three, and they actually glow different colors!)

Something to Phone Home About - Full hand

Something to Phone Home About - Fingers

Something to Phone Home About - Glow

I used:

Off-White: Illamasqua Load (hee hee)
Glow: American Apparel Moon (Glow in the Dark)
Dark Blue: American Apparel Passport Blue

HalloWEDNESDAY! I Broke the Mold

Have you noticed that all my Halloween posts have been grotesque or creepy? Today is no different, I've got moldy, mossy, nasty nail art for you today! Only one more HalloWEDNESDAY left, and that will be Halloween, so I have to think of something extra wicked. (In more ways than one!) What do you guys think of the creepy nail art? Are you more of a creepy/gross nail art fan or do you prefer the cutesy/fun kind?

The design I came up with for today utilizes flocking powder, and actually benefits from the staining on my nails. (YES, I use basecoat EVERY time I paint my nails, not sure why they stain so badly!) They were most recently stained by Zoya Kimber, which I used in my BCA design. That polish is actually pretty gorgeous, but man did it stain! (worth it!!)

Would you wear this design? Tell me why or why not in the comments!

Tutorial to come! :)

Broke the Mold - FULL

Broke the Mold - FINGERS

Broke the Mold - THUMB

I used:

Olive Green: Zoya Dree
Dark Green: Zoya Envy
Green flocking powder

Check out this cool moth that was hangin' out by the fluorescent light outside!

Moonicure Monday - What a Slimeball!

Ever have one of those days? I did today. lol

Today I had to go to the FRRO (Foreign Resident Registration Office) here in Chennai to apply for my visa extension. Sweet holy hell, whoever thought that place up is a sadist. You go from sitting in a row of chairs (then everyone stands up and moves to the next chair when someone gets to go to the next room), to a room where you do the chair thing again. A lady (or man) looks at your papers, writes some stuff, sends you to another room where you AGAIN do the chair thing. When you get to the front of that queue, that person looks at your papers, writes some more stuff, sends you back to the first room (again doing the chair thing). That person looks at your same papers once more, gives you a token, where you go back to the other room again and wait for your number to be called. Heaven forbid you have some odd piece of paperwork missing that the people in legal didn't give you (because they didn't know you needed it- I swear the process changes daily). What? Someone from the office brought you the paperwork within 45 minutes? You want to hand it over now? Nope, sorry. Your new appointment is in 3 days. Come back then. *SCREAM*. After about 6.5 hours of that, I got to go to the office. :D

That was my day. When I got home, I literally tried 6 different designs for Moonicure Monday, which all failed. (Even the simplest one ever- newsprint transfer!) Now, I've been wanting to use this Cult Nails Deal With It polish for ages. (On my fingernails - it's been on my toes for weeks!!) This is a super awesome and fairly unique polish that is a perfect color for slime. I figured- Halloween? Slime? Yep, I'm in. :) Not my best attempt, but I still love the slime part! lol I hope Coco approves of my use of her polish creation! :-P

What do you think?

I used:

Light Grey: Nubar Marble Tower
Black: Cult Nails Nevermore
Green: Cult Nails Deal With It
Basecoat: Cult Nails Get it On
Topcoat:  Seche Vite + Cult Nails Wicked Fast

Gangham Style - Mahima S

I was inspired by a cutepolish YouTube tutorial.

Cupcakes - The Nailist of nailthattrend.com

This one I called 'Cupcakes and dreams'.My inspiration was basically a love of cupcakes and the hope of one day owning a nail salon/cupcake shop! I also love using a palette of colours and then do a different design on each hand.

Mrs. Frankenstein - Dahlia of http://datyorkloves.blogspot.com

Ginger Pumpkin - Unicorngirl of iamunicorngirl.livejournal.com

I was inspired by Ulta Ginger Peach, a subtly pearly polish that looks pink in some light and orange in others. I kept wanting to call it Ginger Pumpkin, which sounds like a fabulous dessert, so I made a manicure surrounding it for Halloween.  This is my first time using a brush to make the jack-o-face!

Cookie Monster - Carolina L.

I got inspired by cutepolish tutorial on Youtube.

Glitter - April S.

I made these with just ordinary craft glitter glued on with nail glue. Had to use plenty of top coats!! Inspired by Bring that Bling  http://www.thedailynailblog.com/2012/09/bring-that-bling.html

Back to School - scampsnailart.tumblr.com

I decided to submit my back to school manicure, which was inspired by The Daily Nail itself!  The pencil was taken from the tutorial for pencil nails, and the apple was from a cutepolish design.  Then I just brainstormed other back-to-school type things for the other nails.  I really loved this manicure and I think it's one of my best ones so far.

Colour Block - Anid Harker of heartynails.tumblr.com

I got the colour block idea from fashion in general (I think), and then just worked with whatever polishes I had right then for the colour choice.

Fireworks - Laura N

I've seen fireworks done countless times and decided I'd give it a try myself! The best part is if you don't do every line perfect it still looks pretty good haha

Oh Canada! - http://www.lacquerbuzz.com

I am currently doing a Where In The World challenge with a few other bloggers, where we do nail art inspired by different countries around the world. This was inspired by the Canadian Mounties uniform and the thumb is, of course, the maple leaf from the Canadian flag. The beauty of this challenge is that anyone can join at any time and go at their own pace, so everyone is welcome to join us.

Only one more chance to get your nail art featured on The Daily Nail!  Hurry! :D

Reader Nail Art Week - Day 5

Wow- Day 5 already! Today we have beloved cartoon characters, abstracts, dotting and pop art legends!

Mix & Math - Jasmine of jasmine-isabelle.tumblr.com

I wanted to try the pencil nail art by cutepolish (TDN Note- cutepolish's pencil tutorial was inspired by my I've Gotta Go No. 2 design :)), when a friend showed me a picture of notebook paper nail art. A formula was written on each nail. So I tried my hand at combining the two ideas (with a few more ideas thrown in). And... Well, this happened!

Helly Kitty - Grace P

These are my Hello Kitty nails, they were inspired by my daughters bathrobe, she loved them so much I painted hers in a similar way, though those lasted about 2 hours on my 6 year old.

Abstract Nails - Kirsty of http://ohlookatmynails.blogspot.co.uk

I don't really have a specific inspiration for this mani. I couldn't decide what colour to use so I grabbed a few bottles of polish and hey presto, this colourful abstract design appeared!

Gold & Black - Alexis of http://glittertips22.blogspot.co.uk

I was suffering from some nail art block and decided to take a look in my jewellery draw for inspiration, I found lots of black and gold with studs and skulls! I did this freehand using regular nail polish and the gradients were done using the kitchen sponge technique.

Purple Drips - M of http://criminalnails.blogspot.com.es

Pop Art - Lola

I love pop art, so this design is inspired by Andy Warhol's paintings: Campbell's tomato soup, Marilyn Monroe, the Brillo box, coke bottle and his signature on the little finger.

Dotted - Gin of http://baroquefool.blogspot.com

I made this mani, then I saw your post and I think it's perfect for the occasion! it has all of my favorite polishes in so I wanted to share this with you or possibly with your followers :)

Black & White - Christine M

These are my Madeline Poole inspired nails. i also love the simplicity of black & white.
They were created using a tooth pick because dotting tools and nail art brushes are hard to come by in South Africa.

Autumn Stripes - Anita W.

Calvin & Hobbes - Vicky of thenailartiste.blogspot.ca

A tribute to my favourite comic by Bill Watterson. He speaks for the inner child in all of us!

Braided Design - The Nailist of nailthattrend.com

I saw the braided technique on a YouTube tutorial, it was one of those afternoons where you just go on to YouTube to find one thing and before you know it a whole 4 hours of your life has disappeared! I love metallics and I think the combo is really striking.

Roller Coaster Tycoon - Laura N.

One day I was going through my old computer games and found this and started playing and eventually I got this idea! I started on it right away, the hardest part was choosing which icons to use!

Great job everyone!! So awesome to have such talented readers!! :)

Reader Nail Art Week - Day 4

Day 3 of Reader Nail Art Week has skulls, and zombies and studs! Some great ideas guys- keep those submissions coming!!

Sugar Skulls - Charleen G. of http://cherielovenailart.tumblr.com

I've been so inspired by your nail art designs in the past years. I really started getting into nail art because of your designs, so thank you for being you!

Valentine's - Dil K. of http://www.youtube.com/angelicdil

I did this design earlier this year for Valentine's Day! I was inspired by watercolour backgrounds and added some hearts to make it more Valentine-y. It's not really supposed to be anything, just sweet pink and full of hearts.

Candy Calculators - Jasmine of jasmine-isabelle.tumblr.com

I wanted to try a rainbow manicure, but I didn't want to go plain. I saw my sister's orange calculator. I thought, "Hm. Why not?" So bam, candy calculator nails! I hope you like my nerdy nail art. :)

Colourblock - Christine

My name is Christine and this is my 1st time entering a nail art contest so I thought what a good time to do it because I love your blog. I'm all the way from South Africa and this is my work of art entitled Colourblock.

Keep Calm and Carry On - Bailey Y

I love doing nail art and I'm always browsing pinterest, blogs, etc. for inspiration and I realized that I had never seen "keep calm and carry on" nails. I LOVE the keep calm and carry on posters, so I decided to give it a shot and these are what I came up with :)

What a Stud - Kelli of YouGotNailz.blogspot.com

I was inspired to do this design when my nail studs finally arrived in the mail. I started with one of my favorite neons: China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy and added studs. Then my grandmother told me I needed to add glitter! And viola, this totally studly manicure was born.  The next day I went to Disneyland and I found out that this design looked awesome under black light!

Fall Mosaics - Whitney of http://www.dressedupnails.com

call these fall mosaics! The inspiration behind them was (again) the China Glaze On Safari collection... I seriously can't get enough of these colors, I think I have a problem. They're just so amazing and they all go so well together. I used 11 of the 12 colors in the collection for these nails! I think they look kinda like stained glass, too. I painted the glitter on first and then freehanded the shapes on top of it to create the mosaic effect. Glitter makes everything better, in my opinion.

Zombie Nails - Marcela of http://polishedlove.blogspot.mx

These are my zombie nails. I was inspired first by your Let it slide manicure, in which instead of doing the super cute Halloween nail art you went for ugly and disgusting, and that's super cool! Then I saw Samarium's blog where she created ugly dirty zombie nails. I think these two manicures are more Halloween-ish than the cute pumpkin patch ones. And I kinda like when people ogle my nails in utter disgust.

Brown Stripes - Sam of polishedart.blogspot.co.uk

I wanted to create a manicure using OPI's lovely chocolatey-brown Over The Taupe.  I thought blue would go nicely with it, and this manicure was born!

Amsterdam - Essi of cavanails.blogspot.fi

I made these nails for my trip to Amsterdam with my mom. The idea isn't the most original, just the flags of the city and the country, but I like how these turned out anyway :)

30 Rock - Julie M.

Inspired by the show 30 Rock, my left hand shows some Night Cheese, Jack's Suit, Frank's Hat, and the TGS logo!

Backwards Poem - Laura N.

Did these for a Creative Project for an English class. It goes along with a nonsense folktale... poem.
"One bright day in the middle of the night,
two dead boys got up to fight,
back to back they faced eachother,
drew their swords and shot eachother."

Love all the submissions guys! Keep up the awesome work!! :)
